Yesterday late in the evening, surgical teams from five hospitals in Greece, Germany and Italy met at the G.H.A. “G. Gennimatas ” for the graft removal from a female donor 33 years old, whose family took the brave decision to donate her organs. The Team from the 1st Surgery Clinic & Organ Transplant Unit of G.H.A. “Evangelismos” led by Dr. Vasileios Drakopoulos, assisted by Eleni Daskalaki and Sotirios Voulgaris, under the coordination of Dimitrios Pistolas, proceeded with the removal of the kidneys, while the surgical teams from the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, an Italian Hospital, a German hospital and “Ofthalmiatreio” Eye Hospital of Athens, proceeded with the removal of the heart, liver, lungs and corneas.

With the completion of yesterday’s graft removal – which followed 4 more organ donations, from donors at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center, General Hospital of Ptolemaida “Bodossakeio”,  the P.G.H. “Attikon” and G.H.TH. “Papageorgiou” – an impressive in terms of altruism and humanity week was concluded,  with 5 donors offering to more than 20 patients a second chance at life.
